Rams Defeat Yeshiva; Extend Lead in South Division

New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned a 69-60 road victory at Yeshiva last night as five players scored in double-digits. The Rams improved to 12-5 overall and 8-0 in the Skyline to open up a 2.5 game lead over second place Old Westbury (9-7, 5-2) in the South Division.

Trailing 12-11 with 10:08 left to play in the first half, FSC used a 9-0 run over the next 2:21 to go ahead by eight, 20-12.

After Yeshiva's (8-6, 4-2) Bar Alluf (Kfar Saba, Israel) hit a 3 to tie the game at 28-28, the Rams answered with back-to-back scores from Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) to regain the lead, 32-28, with 3:06 remaining. The Maccabees closed the half with four straight points to tie the game at 34-34 heading into the break.

With FSC ahead 44-43, the Rams extended the advantage to five with a layup and dunk by sophomore forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) on their next two trips down the floor. Yeshiva responded with a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the second half, 50-48, with 11:09 remaining.

With 6:02 left on the clock and Farmingdale State on top by one, junior guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer and Monaghan followed with a pair of free-throws to extend the advantage to six, 62-56. The Rams held the Maccabees to only four points over the final 3:14 to cap off the 69-60 road victory.

Riefenstahl tallied his third straight double-double with game-highs in both points (17) and rebounds (13), while Monaghan added 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Mableton, Kinard and sophomore guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) each scored 10 points for FSC in the win.

Senior forward Michael Berg (New York, N.Y.) scored a team-high 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, had six rebounds and three blocks for Yeshiva.

Farmingdale State next will play host to Purchase in a conference game on Wednesday, January 25th at 8:00 p.m.
