St. Thomas men efficient in road win in Winona

Senior guard Grant Shaeffer celebrated his 100th career game with a team-best 20 points and the visiting Tommies shot 62 percent from the floor in Wednesday night's 100-65 conference men's basketball win at St. Mary's.

The Tommies (11-4 overall, 7-3 MIAC) had only five turnovers and used a 49-18 advantage in bench points as they posted the program's first 100-point game in four seasons. UST closed the first half of the 20-game MIAC schedule one game behind the leaders.

Ryan Boll had 15 points and Michael Hannon scored 13, while John Veil added eight assists with no turnovers in 21 minutes. Fourteen different Toms scored points.

Wylie Ferron scored a game-best 22 points for the Cardinals (5-9, 3-7).

St. Thomas is home Saturday to face Augsburg.
