#13 RAMAPO MEN'S BASKETBALL DOWN RIVAL WPU 108-85

Mahwah, NJ:  The #13 ranked Ramapo College men's basketball team posted a 108-85 victory tonight over the Pioneers of William Paterson University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.  Behind 20 points from Nick Stanek, the Roadrunners improve to 15-1 overall and 9-1 in conference play.  The Pioneers fall to 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the NJAC.
 
In a game where 21 three-point shots dropped, it was Ramapo College who proved to be too much for the Pioneers taking the conference game behind Stanek, who finished the night shooting 8-12 for 20 points.   The team shot a combined 37-63 (59%).  James Long collected 17 points and Sultan Aminu added 16 while Christopher Moseley added 13 in the win.  Stanek recorded the double-double with a team leading 12 rebounds, while Long earned a double-double of his own with ten assists.  Patrick Peterson grabbed three steals in the win.
 
The Roadrunners quickly jumped out to an 11-2 lead after Long started the game with a three-point goal.  George Sapp would sink two before Moseley (3), Aminu (2) and Josh Ford (3) would connect eight points to go ahead by nine.  The Pioneers quickly responded with an 11-2 run of their own, capped with a three from Joseph Taylor to tie the game at 13 and force a Ramapo timeout.  Out of the timeout, Long would sink two and a dunk from Moseley would force the Pioneers to talk it over trailing, 13-17.  Over the next five minutes the Roadrunners would work to spread their lead with Stanek sinking two points with 9:39 on the clock to take a 29-16 advantage.  Stanek nailed down a three to go up 34-18 forcing a WPU timeout.  Two long shots from Taylor would cut the lead to 12, 24-36, but Ramapo responded to go ahead 19 with another basket from Stanek, 43-24 with 5:26 to play.  With Ramapo leading 45-26, Taylor, Galen Smith, and Zach Frick each nailed down long shots helping the Pioneers to close the gap, 39-48, and with just over a minute to go, Frick hit another basket to come within six, 50-44.   After trading three point goals in the final seconds, Ramapo would lead 56-48 at the halftime buzzer.  Stanek led the Roadrunners with 14 points as the team went 20-37 (54%) from the field.  Taylor led the Pioneers with 18 points including 6-7 from three-point range.  The team combined for 18-30 (60%) in the half. 
 
To open the second half, Ramapo would connect nine straight points, the run sparked by a free throw from Aminu and capped with a free throw from Moseley at 17:41 to go ahead, 65-48.  The Pioneers would respond with a 9-0 run just a few minutes later to come within eight, 63-71 with just over 12 to play but Ramapo would take control again with a basket from Aminu at 9:10, putting the Roadrunners up, 83-69.  Three point baskets continued to fall as Peterson scored one of his own to put Ramapo up, 90-75 and in the finals minutes the Roadrunners would control the play earning the 108-85 victory.  Aminu led Ramapo with 12 points in the second half and Long added nine as the team hit 17-26 (65%).  Taylor led WPU with ten points and Smith collected eight.  The Pioneers hit 11-27 (41%) in the half. 
 
Taylor led the Pioneers with 28 points and Frick collected 21, as the team went 29-57 (51%) in the loss.  Taylor contributed with ten rebounds to record the double-double as Frick and Sapp each contributed four assists. Frick also grabbed three steals on the night.
 
The Roadrunners will travel to Stockton University on Saturday, January 21st when they tip-off at 1pm in the New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up.
