Fifth-Ranked UW-River Falls Earns Win at UW-La Crosse

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team dropped its fourth straight game with a 91-76 loss to fifth-ranked UW-River Falls Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles fall to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons improve to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.  UW-River Falls, ranked fifth on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, earned its 13th straight win Wednesday. 

UWL took a 3-0 lead on Clint Rihn's three-pointer, but UW-River Falls went on 9-0 run and would never trail the rest of the game.  UWL trailed 19-12 with 12:03 remaining after a Milton Cummings three-point field goal, but UW-River Falls used a 14-7 run to lead 33-19 on a Devin Buckley three-point field goal.  The Falcons led by as many as 16 points in the first half before the Eagles' Zach Schradle hit a three-pointer with :22 left to cut the halftime deficit to 47-34.

UW-River Falls led 56-41 with 17:49 remaining when UWL used a 13-6 run to cut the lead to 62-54 with 13:55 left a Schradle layup.  The Eagles trailed 64-56 with 12:11 remaining, but the Falcons went on a 10-2 run to lead 74-58.  UWL cut it to 80-73 with 3:51 remaining on a Cummings' layup, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game.

UWL shot 41.1% from the field, including 32.1% (nine-of-28) from three-point range, and 77.8% (seven-of-nine) at the free throw line.  Schradle led six Eagles in double figures with 18 points.  He recorded his eighth double-double of the season with a team-high 10 rebounds. 

Rihn and Tanner Bruchs each finished with 13 points Wednesday while Cummings had 12.  Rihn went four-of-six from three-point range in scoring a career-high 13 points while Bruchs finished two-of-six from three-point range and had a team-high four assists.  Cummings tied his career with 12 points while adding seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.  Austin Fritz and Nolan Wright each scored 10 points Wednesday with Wright going five-of-seven from the field while also grabbing five rebounds.  Fritz scored in double figures for the seventh straight game while Wright's 10 points was a career-high.

UW-River Falls shot 64.7% from the field, including 58.8% (10-of-17) from three-point range, and 88.2% (15-of-17) at the line.  The Falcons shot 62.1% (18-of-29) from the field in the first half, including 66.7% (eight-of-12) from three-point range.  The team shot 68.2% (15-of-22) from the field in the second half.  Akex Herink led UW-River Falls with 23 points while Garret Pearson finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds.  Herink was five-of-six from the field, including three-of-four from three-point range, and 10-of-10 at the line. Pearson finished 10-of-11 from the field, including one-of-two from three-point range, and one-of-one at the line.  Buckley finished with 18 points, going seven-of-11 from the field, including four-of-six from three-point range. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, January 21 at UW-Platteville at 7 p.m.
