Guard Chad Carlson and the Hope College men's basketball team brought their best 3-point shooting on the road.
Both equaled season-highs in 3-pointers made to power the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association co-leading Flying Dutchmen to a 78-74 win at Trine on Saturday in Angola, Indiana.
Hope (11-4 overall) stayed tied atop the MIAA with Calvin. Both teams have 4-0 league records.
The Flying Dutchmen matched their season-high with 13 3-pointers at 41.9 percent clip.
Carlson led the long-range effort by equaling his season-best with six 3-pointers made at a 60-percent clip. The senior from Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) also matched his career-high with a team-high 20 points.
Three other Hope starters scored in double figures.
Senior forward Cody Stuive of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) totaled a career-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Junior guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland) chipped in 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. He went 9-of-11 from the foul line.
Hawkins sealed the win with his third and final steal with 10 seconds remaining and his final two made free throws.
Senior forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover) added 13 points against Trine (7-8, 2-2 MIAA).
Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Jan 18 when the Flying Dutchmen host Adrian for a 7:30 p.m. game at DeVos Fieldhouse.
