Lydon Nets Career-High 15 in 82-56 Win at Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. - Zach Lydon (Elizaville/Stissing Mountain) scored 11 of his career-high 15 points in the first half as Cortland took a 16-point halftime lead on the way to an 82-56 victory at Potsdam in SUNYAC men's basketball action.

Lydon finished 6-for-10 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, for the Red Dragons (10-4, 5-2 SUNYAC). Justin Cooper (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) hit 5-of-8 shots and ended with 13 points, three assists and three rebounds, and Carrel Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Deer Park (NY)) hit two of his three 3-point attempts and scored 12 points.

Also for Cortland, Michael Kelly (Monroe/Burke Catholic) scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds, James Morales (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) totaled eight points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists, and Justin Prendergast (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) made all three of his shots from the floor and ended with eight points and team highs of seven rebounds and two blocks.

Jayquan Thomas led Potsdam (1-12, 0-7 SUNYAC) with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting and he also hauled in eight rebounds. Nosa Onabor led the Bears with nine rebounds.

Cortland used a 10-2 run midway through the first half to extend a 16-14 lead to 26-16. Lydon made two 3-pointers during that stretch. The Red Dragons pushed their lead to as much as 18 late in the first half and led 48-32 at the break. Potsdam briefly closed within 14 in the first two minutes of the second half, but Cortland scored seven straight on a Joseph trey, a Morales layup and a Prendergast dunk to go up by 21. Cortland led by 18 or more the last 15 minutes.

Cortland finished at 43 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3-point range (12-of-35), and 80 percent from the foul line (12-of-15). Potsdam shot 37 percent overall, but only 18 percent (4-of-22) from long distance, and the Bears hit only 6-of-14 free throws.

Cortland will play at Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m.
