Framingham Rallies Past Westfield State 63-55

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard Wesley Ogbevoen (O'Bryant/Boston, Mass.) scored 22 points to lead Framingham State to a 63-55 win over Westfield State in a  Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game at the Woodward Center on Wednesday evening.

Framingham came out of the gate strong, connecting on 8 of 19 three point tries in the opening 20 minutes to lead 32-24 at the half.

Westfield State rallied through the early stages of the second half, outscoring the Rams 12-4 over the first seven minutes of the second half, tying the game at 36-all on a Jesus Sanchez (Holderness/ Springfield, Mass.)  layup with 13:02 to play.  The Owls grabbed a brief lead, last leading at 45-43 after an Allister Williams (Bedford/Boston, Mass.)  layup with 8:03 left in the game.

Framingham swung the momentum and pulled away late with a 15-1 run that was capped by a Tony   Alexandre (Boston Prep Charter/Hyde Park, Mass.) layup with 2:29 to play that gave the Rams a 58-46 advantage.  Ogbevoen scored eight points to fuel the run, including back-to-back three pointers.

Senior guard Jesus Sanchez (Holderness/Springfield, Mass.) led Westfield with a game high 23 points, connecting on 11-12 free throws.   Williams was the only other Owl in double figures with 13 points.  Marcus Collins (Cambridge Rindge and Latin/Cambridge, Mass.) grabbed nine rebounds. Westfield State falls to 5-9 on the season, and 2-1 in the MASCAC.

Framingham State improves to 5-10 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC. For Framingham, Ogbevoen made 8 of 15 shots from the floor and 4-6 from three-point range.   He was the lone Ram in double-figure scoring.  Benjamin Roache (Dighton-Rehoboth/Dighton, Mass.) added nine points, connecting on three of six shots from downtown.

Westfield State will host Salem State on January 18th at 5:30 p.m. in another MASCAC contest.   

Framingham State will travel to MCLA for a conference match on Saturday, January 14th at 1:00 p.m.
