How It Happened
Travis Conrad's historic night was the catalyst in leading Lebanon Valley to a hard-fought and valuable 83-82 road victory over MAC Commonwealth rival Arcadia on Wednesday night, Jan. 11.
Conrad didn't miss a single shot in the win, finishing a perfect 8-8 from the field, 4-4 from the foul line, and 7-7 from beyond the arc. He netted a game-high 27 points, including 15 in the second half of the down-to-the-wire contest.
With the score at 69 with 5:41 left to play, the Flying Dutchmen (10-6, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) put together a crucial 10-2 run over the ensuing 4:13 to give the visitors some much-needed breathing room down the stretch. Andy Orr started the run with an old-fashioned three-point play and capped it with a layup off a Conrad assist at the 1:28 mark.
The Knights (8-7, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth) knocked down three triples in the final 30 seconds, including Ryan Kelley's jumper from distance with 0.6 remaining, to pull to within one but Conrad and Orr combined to convert four free throws in the closing moments to preserve the key conference victory.
LVC led 44-40 at halftime but Arcadia's 10-1 run to open the second half gave the home team a 50-45 advantage with 15:57 left.
Conrad's sixth three-pointer of the night halted the Knights' momentum and put the Dutchmen out in front 59-55 at the 10:49 mark but Arcadia refused to go away as a Brandon Thompson triple reclaimed the lead for the home team at 67-64 with 6:44 remaining.
The first of two and-ones for Orr off Conrad finds drew LVC even with the Knights and a pair of free throws from Sam Light at the 5:57 mark kept the lead changes coming. Reigning MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year knocked down a pair of foul shots for Arcadia on the team's ensuing possession before the Dutchmen responded with the game-changing run in the final minutes.
Lebanon Valley scored the first 10 points of the contest but sharpshooting from long range by both squads kept things close throughout. The teams combined for 16 first-half three-balls and 26 throughout the duration of the game.
Conrad Makes History
Travis Conrad set a pair of single-game program records in the victory over Arcadia. His perfect shooting night from the floor (8-8) is the best output of any player in program history to take at least eight field goals in a game. His perfect 7-7 effort from beyond the arc also set the program's all-time mark for any LVC player who converted at least six attempts from three-point territory in a single outing.
Stat of the Night
73.4 – Thanks to the three-point shooting prowess of Travis Conrad, Sam Light, and Collin Moore, Lebanon Valley shot an incredible 73.4 percent from beyond the arc on Wednesday night; a number that ranks second all-time in program history. Only the 1993 squad fared better from three-point land when that Dutchmen group shot 77.8 percent from downtown against Albright in a contest that February.
Inside the Numbers
- Both teams shot well from the field as LVC finished with a 55.6 percentage and Arcadia racked up a 49.1 percent clip.
- The Knights' 60 percent effort from beyond the arc would be the story on any other night had it not been for the Dutchmen knocking down treys at an incredible 73.4 percent clip.
