Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw men's basketball team took their fifth consecutive victory on Saturday with a 73-64 win over Kenyon College in a North Coast Athletic Conference matchup.
Senior Luke Lattner led all scorers with 20 points, and Jack VandeMerkt recorded a double-double at 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Jarrett scored 14 off the bench, and James Clarke tallied 11 of his own.
Kenyon was led by Bennett Grigull's 14 points and Matt Shifrin's 13.
Both teams went back-and-forth for the opening 12 minutes before DePauw took a 23-14 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Kenyon cut the lead to four but a late layup from Lattner gave the Tigers a 41-35 advantage at the half.
DePauw again expanded their lead midway through the second half and got it to as large as 12 with six minutes remaining at 63-51. However, Kenyon broke off on a 10-2 run and cut it to 65-61 with 2:36 remaining.
Lattner then came through with another clutch layup and scored the final eight points for DePauw, going 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to close the game.
DePauw shot 42 percent (20-of-48) from the floor compared to Kenyon's 37 percent (26-of-70). The Tigers were also 8-of-15 from long range (53 percent) and 25-of-34 from the foul line. Kenyon struggled from deep at 27 percent (6-of-22) and went just 6-of-9 (67 percent) from the line.
Kenyon outrebounded the Tigers 42-34 and pulled down 17 offensive rebounds. They also outscored the Tigers in the paint 30-22 and in second chance points 15-12. DePauw held the advantage in scoring off the bench at 24-20 and points off turnovers at 10-2.
The win pushes DePauw to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC. Kenyon drops to 2-11 and 1-5. The Tigers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Denison, and they return home next Saturday to take on Oberlin.
