Albion's Comeback Stalls

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Dominic Fumbanks, Darus Maddox and Lorenzo Marry led Greensboro College on a 12-0 run midway through the second half, and the Pride held on to hand Albion College a 81-75 setback on the second day of the Guilford College Holiday Classic.

Corey Wheeler and Jason Zahran did their best to bring Albion back. They combined to score 18 of Albion's final 20 points. Zahran's basket cut the deficit to 72-69 with four minutes to play.

The Britons also trailed by three when Darius Branch scored to make it 74-71 with 2:43 left.

Albion had a possession to draw closer or pull into a tie, but it ended in a turnover.

Greensboro players hit six free throws to preserve the victory.

Wheeler finished with 20 points, hitting 7-of-13 shots from the field. Zahran completed his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Branch added 15 points.

Donavan Griffith and Marry produced 17 points apiece for Greensboro. Maddox contributed 16 points off the bench.

Albion will take a 3-7 record into its Wednesday night home game against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Hope College, ranked 15th in the D3hoops.com poll. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Kresge Gymnasium.
