More news about: North Central (Ill.)

Capitalizing on extra scoring opportunities and enjoying tremendous balance on the offensive end, the North Central College men's basketball team improved to 3-0 in road games for the season on Tuesday, securing a 68-57 victory over Albion College at Kresge Gymnasium.

The 13th-ranked Cardinals (6-2) scored 20 points off of 13 Albion turnovers and got double-figure scoring efforts from five of the eight players who saw action in the game.

Despite missing five of its first six shots from the floor, North Central held a slim lead throughout the first few minutes before the Britons rallied and moved in front on two occasions, the last of which came at 22-21 after a pair of free throws from Corey Wheeler with 6:32 left in the first half. The Cardinals held the home team scoreless for the next three minutes, pulling ahead on a pair of free throws by Aiden Chang and a dunk by Matt Cappelletti, and wound up closing the half with a 12-4 run to take a 33-26 advantage into halftime.

Jagger Anderson cut short Albion's first two possessions of the second half with a pair of steals, heading the other way for a layup both times to give the Cardinals their first double-digit lead just 42 seconds after play resumed. A 7-0 run cut the Britons' deficit to 37-33, though Nick Chambers' three-pointer restored some of North Central's breathing room. The visitors' lead reached double digits three more times before Albion made one final comeback attempt and closed the gap to 56-50 with 6:23 left, but three-pointers on consecutive possessions by Alex Sorenson and Cappelletti put the Cardinals in control for good.

Anderson scored 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half, and also led North Central with six assists and three steals. Sorenson totaled 14 points, while Chambers and Aiden Chang each scored 12 and Cappelletti finished with 11. Erwin Henry recorded a game-high 11 rebounds.

Wheeler led Albion (2-5) with 16 points, with Kirk Douglas and Jason Zahran adding 12 apiece.

The Cardinals host their final home game of 2016 on Saturday, taking on Robert Morris University-Chicago (7-4). Tipoff at Gregory Arena is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
