BROOKLINE, Mass. – Sophomore Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) poured in 34 points to propel the Nichols College men's basketball team to a 93-84 win over Newbury College Thursday night in non-conference men's basketball action at Hellenic College.
Echevarria – who also notched three rebounds and three steals – tied the program-record with nine 3-pointers. Freshman Jordan Booker (Waterbury, Conn.) netted a career-high 14 points while classmate Jerome Cunningham (Westbury, N.Y.) racked up a double-double with 12 points and 15 boards. The Bison outrebounded the Nighthawks 54-39 and shot 43 percent.
Newbury junior Jeduan Langston (Roxbury, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with 29 points, rebounds and two assists while classmate Daivon Edwards (Roxbury, Mass.) scored 23 points. The Nighthawks turned 20 Nichols turnovers into 22 points and shot 39 percent.
The Bison overcame a sluggish start to take a 43-40 halftime lead. Echevarria led all student-athletes with 21 first-half points, making six of his 12 three-point attempts. Booker, meanwhile, came off the bench and added seven points. Edwards dropped in 15 to pace Newbury, which also received 10 points from Langston.
Cunningham came alive for Nichols in the second half, registering nine points and 11 rebounds in 17 minutes. Freshman DeAnte Bruton (New London, Conn.) added 10 points and five assists, playing every second of the final stanza. Nichols shot 49 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes. Langston collected 19 points (6-of-16 FG) while Edwards scored eight.

Tonight's contest marked the fourth all-time meeting between Nichols College and Newbury College. The Bison have won the last three meetings and now lead the series, 3-1.
