Riley Naclerio scored 13 of his career-high 37 points in overtime as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team scored an 87-78 victory over Elmira College Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game in Burkman Gymnasium in Canton.

The Saints (6-1) wrap up the first semester schedule with four consecutive wins with all four coming in a span of eight days.

Elmira (2-4) held a lead for most of the game including an 11-point advantage at 62-51 with 9:30 left in the second half. Naclerio scored a pair of layups and two free throws over the next 3:20 to trim the lead to five points at 62-57.

The Saints continued the run and Kyle Edwards closed the gap to a single point at 65-64 with 3:36 left.

After Elmira surged back ahead, leading by four points at 70-66 with 2:02 on the clock, Edwards hit a pair of free throws and then a 3-point basket at 1:09 to give St. Lawrence the lead.

"I was happy with the way our guys never gave up," said head coach Chris Downs. "We were down in the second half and even trailed late but Kyle (Edwards) hit that hit three and I think that was the key. That's a big basket and one we expect from our captain."

Naclerio added a free throw with 22 seconds left but Elmira tied the game at the end of regulation with an offensive rebound and put back shot to send the game into overtime.

Kieran Miller opened the extra session with a short jumper before Naclerio scored three consecutive layups, three free throws and a dunk with 53 seconds left to give the Saints a nine-point lead. Two more free throws by Naclerio iced the victory for St. Lawrence.

"Riley (Naclerio) had a nice game," said Downs. "He, and the rest of the team sensed early that he could score inside against this team. I credit the rest of the team for recognizing that and getting him the ball. Edwards and (Willie) Zachery had four assists each and (Kyle) Kobis had three and most of those were probably to Naclerio."

Naclerio finished with 37 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 free throws and added a team-leading 10 rebounds. Edwards added 21 points and Zachery finished with nine points, four rebounds and four assists. The Saints shot 63.3 percent (31-for-49 for the game from the field. Elmira had five players score in double figures and had 35 of its 78 points come from the bench.

St. Lawrence is off until Dec. 30 when play resumes with Liberty League action as the Saints travel to Union.
