UMHB men roll past Belhaven 88-64

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team used a solid shooting night and big rebounding advantage to post an 88-64 victory over Belhaven University Saturday night in Belton. The Cru improves to 3-3 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Blazers to 1-3 on the year.

Belhaven scored the first six points of the game and built an 11-3 lead three minutes into the contest. The Cru fought back to take a 12-11 lead and never looked back. UMHB would take a 44-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. The lead would swell to 18 points early in the second half and the Blazers never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way. UMHB shot 52 percent from the field in the second half and went to the free throw line 36 times, hitting 20 of those after halftime.

Demarius Cress topped the Cru with 20 points. Braden Hammond had 17 points and eight rebounds and Aubrie King also reached double figures with 13 points. Austen Stolte pulled down a game-high ten rebounds to go with eight points, four blocked shots and a pair of assists. Nine different players scored in a balanced effort for UMHB. The Cru finished at 46 percent shooting as a team. UMHB also out rebounded Belhaven 47-37 and forced 18 turnovers. The Cru shot 51 free throws as a team in the game.

Victor Price was the only player in double figures for the Blazers with 11 points. Dyron Anderson had seven points and seven rebounds. Belhaven shot 32 percent as team and went 10-34 from three-point range in the loss.

The Cru men will now take a week off for finals. UMHB returns to action with a 4:00 PM non-conference game at Southwestern University next Saturday in Georgetown.
