Men’s Basketball Drops NEAC Opener at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball team their first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the season, falling 70-56 at Morrisville State College on Wednesday night.

Keuka College (0-5, 0-1 NEAC) will be on the road this weekend as they play at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday and at SUNY Poly on Sunday in a pair of conference games.

Greg Tyler (Edgewater, Md. / Southern) led the Wolves with 13 points in the loss. Trevor Powell (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) added 12 points and tied for the team lead in rebounding with Dylan Doupe (Phoenix, N.Y. / John C. Birdlebough), each grabbing eight boards. Cliff Stevens (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) was also in double-digits for the Wolves with 10 points.

Jelani Fontanez (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) scored the first four points of the game for Keuka as the Wolves and the Mustangs were tied early. Morrisville State started to pull away with an 8-0 run to lead 17-8. Trailing by 11 halfway through the half, Cliff Stevens knocked down a three for the Wolves. That was followed by a three by Trevor Powell. A layup by Powell drew the margin down to five points, 23-18. Keuka College worked the margin down to three points, 25-22 with six minutes left, but Morrisville State was able to grow their lead to seven points, 37-30, by halftime.

Keuka College came out of the locker rooms hot, scoring the first seven points of the second half to tie the game at 37-37. Morrisville State responded with an 18-1 run over the next five minutes to take control of the game. The Mustangs maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game as they defeated Keuka College 70-56 on Wednesday.
