BETHLEHEM (PA) – Tyliek Kimbrough scored 37 points for the 11th-highest, single-game output in Delaware Valley University men's basketball history, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies dropped a 101-94 shootout at non-conference foe Moravian College.
The Greyhounds, who eclipsed the 100-point mark in back-to-back games for the first time since 1960, improved to 4-1 on the season. DelVal fell back to the .500 mark at 3-3.
Kimbrough, a senior guard, was deadly all night as he hit 13 of 16 shots from the field, including a 4-for-6 effort from beyond the arc. He added a 7-for-11 showing from the free throw line and finished with the most points by an Aggie since Nate Bollinger set the mark with 50 points in a 2012 overtime win over Wilkes University. Kimbrough, who also had four rebounds and three assists, did all of his damage in just 29 minutes of action as he battled foul trouble and eventually fouled out with 1:32 remaining.
Kimbrough helped DelVal shoot 51.5 percent from the field, but Moravian was even better as it hit 31 of 58 attempts (53.4 percent), including 12 makes from downtown. Seven of the treys came in the first half as the Greyhounds led by as many as 15 before taking a 45-34 advantage into the break.
The Aggies scored four of the first six points in the second stanza to get their deficit to single digits. However, Moravian responded with an 11-0 run to take a 58-38 lead with 16:10 remaining. The Greyhound lead expanded to as many as 21 as they were still up 18, 85-67, with 6:20 to go when DelVal made a late run. The Aggies scored 18 of the game's next 24 points, including eight by Kimbrough and seven by Andre' Butler to make it a 91-85 contest with 2:17 left on the clock.
Moravian countered with three straight and the teams then traded points until a Mike Cianciulli trey gave DelVal a final chance as it was down six with 18 seconds to go. Sean Hanna was fouled three ticks later and he hit one of two free throws to put the Greyhounds up three possessions. The Aggies missed a 3-point attempt and Moravian ran out the clock.
In addition to Kimbrough's heroics, Cianciulli came off the bench to pour in 12 points. Butler had 10 points and seven boards while Manny Brown also hit double digits with 10 points. Alex Matsinye and Tyrea Williams combined for 14 points and 17 rebounds.
The Greyhounds were led by Brandon McGuire's 25 points and 11 rebounds. He hit 10 of 14 shots on the evening, including five from 3-point land. Matt Cardonne notched 16 points while Hanna and John Hargraves finished with 11 points apiece.
DelVal hits the road for a third straight game on Monday, December 5 when it battles The College of New Jersey.
