Farmingdale State - 87, Medgar Evers - 79

Chester, Pa. - In the consolation game at the Widener Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, the Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers, 87-79. FSC sophomore forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) was named to the All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.5 points and 16.0 rebounds per game.

Leading 24-23 midway through the first half, the Rams (1-1) used back-to-back 3's from Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) to open up a seven-point advantage.

After the Cougars (1-2) cut the deficit to four, 34-30, Farmingdale State closed the half on a 14-6 run to take a 48-36 lead into the halftime break.

The Rams extended their advantage to 62-45 with 14:44 left to play before Medgar Evers went on a 12-0 run over the next 2:47 to close within five, 62-57.

After a Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) jumper with seven minutes remaining put the Rams ahead 71-66, the Cougars responded with a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 75-71. The Rams answered with a Mableton layup and free-throw and a Matthew Graham (Valley Stream N.Y.) layup to regain the lead, 76-75, with 3:02 remaining.

Trailing 77-76 with 2:27 left on the clock, Graham scored 10 unanswered points for Farmingdale State to open up an 86-77 advantage and put the game out of reach. The Rams went on for the 87-79 victory in the consolation game.

Graham led the way with a team-high 18 points, while Riefenstahl recorded a double-double with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 10 rebounds to go along with a game-high four blocks. Monaghan finished the day with 16 points in the victory for Farmingdale State.

The Cougars were led by junior guard Maurice Swaby II (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 5-for-11 from 3-point range.

The Rams next will travel to Lehman College for a non-conference game on Tuesday, November 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
