More news about: St. John Fisher

Senior All-American Keegan Ryan tallied 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting, while junior Tyler Englishscored 11 of his team's final 13 points, as the St. John Fisher College men's basketball program rallied for a 77-73 win over visiting Hobart College on Saturday.

With the win, Fisher improves to 2-0 overall, while the Statesmen fall to 1-1.

It was a back-and-forth game for most of the day.   Fisher trailed for most of the first half, but took a 33-29 lead with just over four minutes left in the half.  The Statesmen, however, answered with a 7-0 run and led 36-35 at the break.

Fisher opened the second half with a 5-0 spurt to take a 39-36 lead one minute into the second half, but the next seven minutes belonged to Hobart, as the Statesmen took their largest lead of the day at 56-47 with 12 minutes left.

The Cardinals chipped away at the advantage, pulling to within a point at 60-59 with six minutes left on a 3-pointer from freshman Dennis Hare.

After five straight points from Ryan made it 65-64 Hobart, English took over, scoring 11 of his 15 points over the final five minutes.

A traditional three-point-play from English gave his team a 71-67 lead with three minutes left.  Hobart tied the game up at 73s with just under two minutes left, but Fisher kept the Statesmen off the board after that.   A layup from Ryan gave the Cardinals the lead for good, and after a block from English on the defensive end, the junior sealed the win with a driving layup with 15 seconds left and the shot-clock at 1 for the game's final bucket.

Jake Haight added 10 points and six rebounds.   Ryan finished with six boards and three blocks to go with his 28 points, while Hare chipped with seven points and five assists (both career-highs).

Fisher returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and will host SUNY Oneonta.
