ROSEMONT, Penn. (Nov. 18, 2016) – Senior forward Jamier Hughes (Philadelphia, PA/Manor Junior College) scored a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the first half, to lift the Rosemont College men's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 98-74, here Friday night, spoiling the Scarlet Raptors' season opener.
Rosemont evens its record at 1-1.
After the Scarlet Raptors scored five of the first seven points in the contest, the Ravens went on a nine-point run to take the lead for good at 11-5. They increased that margin to 43-30 before scoring the final eight points of the half to make it a 51-30 game at the break.
Hughes, who added a game-high 14 rebounds to finish with a double-double, sot 9-for-18 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, while hitting a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Teammates Khai Roberts (Middletown, DE/Middletown) and Clayton Wolfe (Philadelphia, PA/Delaware Valley Charter) both added 17 points for the Ravens. Wolfe added six assists and Roberts had five steals, both totals being game highs.
Rutgers-Camden received 19 points and six rebounds from sophomore guard Elijah Robles (Clifton, NJ/Clifton). Freshman guard Keith Washington Jr. (Clementon, NJ/Monsignor Bonner, PA) notched 11 points in his first collegiate game for the Scarlet Raptors, while sophomore forward Isaac Destin (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) scored 10 points and added a game-high three blocked shots.
Sophomore guard Kelvin Rivera (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) added nine points for Rutgers-Camden.
Although the Raptors shot 55.3 percent (26-for-47) from the floor, they also had 24 turnovers and were out-rebounded, 39-29.
Rutgers-Camden opens New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night with an 8 p.m. game at The College of New Jersey.
