How it Happened
After a hot start that saw UMass Dartmouth jump out to as much as a 17-point lead in the first half, Trinity found its rhythm in the second stanza, outdoing the Corsairs in the paint. Bantam senior Ed Ogundeko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered two of his 15 second-half points to tie the game at 39 with 16 minutes remaining. Neither team would hold more than a seven-point advantage for the remainder of the half.
Another Ogundeko bucket gave Trinity a 67-63 lead with 48 ticks left. Two possessions later, sophomore Atakan Akcam (Hoosac Falls, N.Y.) dished to Robinson off a steal, who stroked a 3-point basket with 19 seconds on the clock, putting the hosts within one. Another Bantam turnover off an in-bound put the ball in the hands of Akanni, who turned for a 15-footer and gathered the lead. Akcam blocked a Bantam layup attempt before Ogundeko was sent to the foul line with four ticks remaining, where he converted one of two chances to force extra minutes at 68-all.
An Akcam layup capped a 9-0 run, including four points by junior Tucker Bouchard (Kingston, Mass.), midway through overtime. Despite two long-range buckets by Trinity in the final minute, Ackam again delivered with just seven seconds left, sinking both of his foul shots for the seven-point win.
