No. 3 Babson Uses 64-Point First Half to Rout Lasell, 90-72

BABSON PARK, Mass—Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) led all players with 22 points and third-ranked Babson College erupted for 64 first-half points on its way to a 90-72 victory over visiting Lasell College in non-conference men's basketball action on Thursday night at Staake Gymnasium.

With the win, Babson is now 2-0 on the year, while Lasell slips to 1-1.

Senior Isaiah Nelsen (North Andover, Mass.) finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, while junior Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) added 11 points, four boards and three assists for the Beavers. Senior Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.), who was 4-of-4 from the floor, and sophomore Tyler Colon (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) both scored nine points in the win.

Senior Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) finished with a team-high 21 points, while classmate John Powell (Ashland, Mass.) contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lasers.

The Green and White made six of its first eight shots to build a 14-8 lead on a jumper by Nelsen just 3:24 into the contest. Colon buried a three-pointer to cap a 9-0 run that put the hosts up 31-15, and then followed a bucket by Nelsen with another hoos to make it 37-20 with 8:26 left in the first half.

Senior David Stauffer (York, Pa.) converted a feed from Colon for a 49-28 lead, Flannery followed with a jumper and Comenale ripped off nine straight points to help the Beavers take a 64-41 advantage into the locker room.

Despite shooting just 28 percent in the second half, the Beavers pushed their lead to as many as 29 on a three-pointer by first-year Julian Alexis (Somerville, N.J.) with 5:32 to go in the game.

Babson shot 61 percent in the first half and 48.5 percent (32-of-66) for the game while outscoring Lasell 44-30 in the paint. The Beavers also held a 26-7 edge in points off turnovers.

The Lasers shot just 36.4 percent (24-of-66) and finished with a 44-40 edge on the glass.

Babson returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Anna Maria in the opening game of the Babson Invitational Tournament, while Lasell visits Nichols on Saturday at 3 p.m.

• The Beavers are now 11-3 all-time against Lasell.
• Babson's 64 first-half points are its most in a half going back to at least the 2004-05 campaign.
• Flannery has now reached double figures in 42 consecutive games and Comenale has made at least one three-pointer in 19 straight contests.
