Randolph Rebounds with Big Win

FRONT ROYAL, VA – Playing its second game in as many days, the Randolph College men's basketball team earned its first win of the season with a 72-40 win over Christendom College.  The win also happened to be the first of the career for new head mentor Pete Hamilton '11.

Despite increasing the points from the previous night, the big story early on for the WildCats was the defense.  The 'Cats stifling defense held the Crusaders to only 11 points in the first 20 minutes.  Four came from free throw line, with the team giving up only three field goals during the opening stanza.

Randolph did not have the same problems during that time.  The WildCats poured in 39 points, with nine of the 11 guys who saw action tallying.  Jeremiah Davis led the team in the early goings with eight points, while Nick Goble was close behind with seven.  Reid Jacoby and Brian Smith each had a two and a three in the first stanza as well.

CC found a little bit more of a groove in the second half, and also made more free throws, but the pressure from the 'Cats was too much.  After scoring four points in the first half, Drew Hayden led the team in the second with 10.  Goble and Colton Leeadded four apiece, as the scoring was once again distributed well between all of the squad.

Hayden led the team with a career-high 14 points.  Pat Pennefather led Christendom (1-1 overall) with 13 points.

Randolph (1-1) will return to the RAD for its home opener on Saturday.  The WildCats welcome Maryville (Tn.) College for a 3 p.m. matchup.  The 'Cats will also be welcoming several alumni from the program back during the day.
