BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) finished with 33 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as third-ranked Babson College rallied to defeat visiting Albertus Magnus College, 101-81, in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night at Staake Gymnasium.
Flannery was 13-of-20 from the floor and made all seven of his second-half field goal attempts as the Beavers outscored the Falcons 59-33 after the break. Junior Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) scored a career-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, while classmate Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Senior Charlie Rice (Barnstable, Mass.) contributed eight points and seven boards, and classmate Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and four rebounds for Babson (1-0).
Junior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) played all 40 minutes and scored 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and four assists to pace Albertus Magnus (0-1). First-year Jahmerikah Green-Younger (Norwalk, Conn.) added 16 points, while senior Devin Coleman (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 15.
The Falcons shot 54.5 percent in the first half and went 8-of-11 from beyond the arc to build a 48-42 edge at the break. Coleman drained another triple on the second possession of the second half to give Albertus Magnus its biggest lead of the night at 51-42 with 18:45 to play in the game.
The Beavers responded by scoring on their next seven possessions, getting a combined 13 points from Comenale and Flannery as part of a 16-4 run that gave them a 58-55 lead with 14:55 remaining. The Falcons tied the game on a pair of free throws by first-year Damian Grant (Waterbury, Conn.), but the Green and White followed with a 12-2 spurt to build a 70-60 advantage midway through the second half.
Albertus Magnus cut its deficit to six after a three-point play by Walters and a free throw by Green-Younger, but Babson countered with a 17-4 run to push its lead to 87-68 on a triple by Flannery with 5:27 to go in the contest.
The Beavers shot 67.6 percent (23-of-34) in the second half and 55.1 for the game, while finishing 11-of-23 from beyond the arc. The Green and White also held a 41-35 edge on the glass.
The Falcons shot 44.1 percent (30-for-68) on the night, but were just 2-of-8 from deep after halftime.
Babson returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Lasell at 7 p.m., while Albertus Magnus travels to Fitchburg State next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
