Tigers tie 2012-13 win total with 72-61 defeat of Oglethorpe

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2016) – Despite a slow start, the Sewanee men's basketball rolled past Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe for a 72-61 win, Friday, in front of an electric crowd inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Keshonn Carter led the way for the Tigers with 19 points and eight rebounds. Fellow forward Brody Stone added 12 points while Seth Brown pitched in 11.

Overall, Sewanee is 17-7 overall and 10-3 in league play. The 17 wins by the Tigers match the 2012-13 team's total that finished 17-9.

After OU jumped out to an 18-10 lead after a three by Connor Smith, Sewanee answered back. A three by Matt Tome sparked a 9-3 run by the Tigers.

Over the final six minutes of the first half, both teams continued to trade scores. Eventually, OU led by three, 30-27, at halftime.

Out of the locker, things quickly changed in Sewanee's favor. A three by Cody Jones opened an 18-5 run over the first seven minutes.

After a Justin Edwards layup with 12:40 left, Sewanee answered back with threes by Tome and Jones. Sewanee's lead stayed around 10 points until 4:34 to play. After seven straight points from George Andino, the OU guard missed two key free throws.

On the next Sewanee possession, Tome hit another three to push the Tiger lead back to 10. From there, Sewanee never looked back.

That included key free throws by Carter and a dunk by freshman Cam Caldwell.

Overall, Sewanee made 46.6 percent of its shots while outrebounding OU 37-20.

Andino and Smith led OU with 14 points each.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 3:00 p.m. game against Berry, Sunday.
