GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy bested Immaculata, 88-79, on Saturday on Senior Day, using a big comeback to erase a 14-point first half deficit. The victory also guarantees a #1 or #2 playoff seed and a first-round bye.

Senior Julian Hyden had a career day, registering 32 points and 15 rebounds, both personal highs. Aaron Morgan and Cedric Elleby each added 17 while Darnell Artis tossed in 13 as the Griffins (17-6, 15-1 CSAC) pick up their third win in a row.

Hyden was 12-of-19 from the floor, also a career best, and added five assists, three steals and a block. Elleby led the block party with four as the team totaled seven.

Prior to the game, the team and coaching staff honored its four seniors and their parents: Hyden, Morgan, Artis, and Brian Hennessey.

The first half, in which the Griffins trailed throughout, didn't get off to an ideal start as the Mighty Macs hit eight of their 12 three-pointers in the stanza, while shooting just over 57%. Gwynedd had their struggles as well, going just 1-for-10 from behind the arc and 10-of-21 at the free throw line. GMercy would go without a field goal for a good portion of five-plus minutes, allowing IU to go on a 10-0 run and lead 27-14 at the 8:25 mark.

Facing their largest deficit of the game (43-29) with 2:42 before the half, the Griffins put together a 10-2 run to close the stanza and trail 45-39 at the break.

A 9-2 run to open the second allowed Gwynedd to finally take its first lead of the contest as Elleby would put back a miss in the paint for a 48-47 lead with 14:54 to go. Immaculata kept it close, even after three from Aaron Morgan to stretch the lead to six (62-56) just past the midway point of the period.

James Willis' three helped give IU one last push to get it within three points later in the half. The Griffins would then use a game-changing 12-0 run capped by a big triple from Hyden to make it 76-61 with 6:23 to play. From there, GMercyU kept a double-figure lead for most of the remainder of the contest.

Willis and Roy Ferrell Jr. led IU (9-14, 8-8 CSAC) with 18 points apiece. Willis was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor while Ferrell, along with Rodney Duncan and Matt Simon connected on three three-pointers each. The team would finish with 12 for the game.

Game Notes: Gwynedd would finish 17-for-36 at the free throw line (47.2%), their lowest output this season...Morgan had a game-high six assists...GMercyU scored 29 points off of 20 IU turnovers.

Gwynedd Mercy plays at Cairn on Wednesday and at Cabrini on Saturday to close out the regular season. With a win on Wednesday, the Griffins can lock up the #1 seed and have home-court advantage throughout the CSAC Playoffs.
