TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology travels to Manchester University for a key in-state Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball matchup on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Rose-Hulman and Manchester remain two of seven contenders for six spots in the HCAC Tournament in two weeks. The Fightin' Engineers would clinch a bid to the HCAC Tournament with a win at Manchester on Saturday, while the Spartans are one game out of the tournament but would help their tiebreakers scenarios significantly with a win.
Rose-Hulman has won six of its last seven games to move into third place in the conference standings, just one game behind co-leaders Defiance and Mount St. Joseph. The Fightin' Engineers earned a 73-65 win in their most recent game against Earlham College on Wednesday night in the John Mutchner Cup Game.
Senior Matt Loesing leads a balanced scoring attack that features five players in double figures at 11.8 points per game. Senior Dillon Reynolds adds 11.7, with Charlie Aimone (10.3), Tyler Duffy (10.3) and Jimmy Miller (10.2) each averaging over 10 points per contest. Sophomore Stephen Schueth adds 6.5 points per game and is the starting lineup, while other key contributors include Luke Callahan (6.2 ppg), Collin Wojcik (5.2), Wade Stallings (3.3) and Mitch Williams (2.6).
Manchester stands 11-11 on the season and snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over its archrival Anderson 90-86 on Wednesday night. Adrian Johnson leads the Manchester offense at 18.6 points per game, with Brady Dolezal (13.7) and Matt Brown (11.0) also averaging double figures in scoring.
Rose-Hulman and Manchester are tied at 24-24 in series history, and the Fightin' Engineers hold a 12-7 lead in the HCAC era. Manchester snapped an eight-game Rose-Hulman winning streak in the series with a 79-75 win at Hulbert Arena on Jan. 9.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman enters the final week of the regular season. The Fightin' Engineers head to Anderson on Wednesday, then host Defiance in the Senior Day Game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
