The Bearcats hit 21 shots from outside the arc en route to a 101-57 victory over Washington & Jefferson College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at the Carey Center.
Saint Vincent found the basket early and often throughout the first half, shooting a proficient 47% from beyond the arc. Senior Pat Jones netted his first points of the night, draining a baseline trey to give SVC an early 3-0 lead. Classmate Jaylon Bell replicated Jones on the next possession, connecting on a three from the opposite corner to extend the Bearcat lead to six. Following a Presidents' basket, JC Howard scored on a fast break layup while drawing a foul. Howard couldn't convert on the and one opportunity, bringing the sore to 8-2 SVC with 14:17 left in the first.
After W&J netted four straight points, Ben Klimchock scored his first trey of the night, bringing the lead to eight. After two Austin Dedert free throws, Jones and Howard connected on two straight threes, followed by a Howard tip in to give the Bearcats a 25-9 advantage. Howard drained his second trey of the night and Bell scored on a fade away trey of his own to grow the lead to 18.
Jones and Klimchock converted consecutive layups followed by an impressive possession by Klimchock. The senior guard grabbed two offensive boards, scoring shortly after the second, to close out the first half of play and send the Bearcats into the locker room leading the Presidents 41-22.
For Saint Vincent, Jones and Howard netted 10 points each. Bell scored 8 of his own while dishing 5 helpers, while Klimchock added 9. For the Presidents, Joe Satira scored a game-high 13 first-half points.
The Bearcats shot an impressive 68% from the field in the second half, hitting 14-20 from three-point range. Howard started things off in the second, connecting on a floater on the first SVC possession. Howard later netted his third trey of the night off of a Bell assist to give the Bearcats a 22-point lead.
Following a Jones layup, SVC scored from beyond the arc on six-straight possessions, powered by three each from Klimchock and Dan Sinwell. The Bearcat run extended their lead to 33, making the score 70-37 with 10:59 left in the contest. The Bearcats couldn't seem to cool down, netting 7-straight three pointers following their first run. Sinwell started the crusade, converting his fourth trey of the night, followed by a three from Howard, one more from Klimchock, two from senior Geoff FuQuay, and freshman Mike Simmons. An Alex Vanzant drive put the score over 100, closing out the game as the Bearcats defeated the Presidents by a score of 101-57.
Saint Vincent had six players score double figures, led by Klimchock who netted a team-high 20 points. Howard added 18 and 7 assists, Jones scored 15, Sinwell netted 12 and Bell rounded out the scoring with 12 of his own. For W&J, Brian Graytok scored a game-high 21 and Gianni Buarne added 15.
Saint Vincent shot 59% from the field, converting 37-63 field goals. The Bearcats made 21-35 from three, shooting 60%.
SVC is now 13-2 in the PAC, 17-5 overall. W&J falls to 1-14 in the conference, 1-21 overall.
The Bearcats hold a three-game lead in the PAC standings with three games to play. SVC can clinch home court and the regular season PAC title with a win Saturday against Grove City.
