AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas men's basketball team matched a 35-year-old scoring record in its 144-114 victory over Ozarks Saturday at the Concordia Fieldhouse.
Donovan Ford's career-high 51 points were the key to the Tornados' (12-9. 6-5 ASC) impressive team scoring output. Ford hit 12 3-pointers, establishing a new ASC record in the process. Concorida landed 17 triples as a team. CTX also sank 51 field goals overall, tying the second-best performance in school history.
Ford became the fourth player in ASC history to register a 50-plus-point performance and was the second Tornado to do so. K.B. DeBord was the other, registering 53 in 2001.
In addition to Ford's outstanding night, Demarco Richardso (17), Ben Page (14), Josh Samuels (14) and Dervyn Baines (10) ended in double-digits. Ephriam Price dished out a team-high 10 assists.
Ford had surpassed his previous career-high (34) at halftime, when he went to the lockerroom with 36 of Concordia's 81.
Unfortunately for DeBord, his 53-point performance now moves to second all-time in the conference record book as Ozarks' Josh Breard finished the evening with 60 points.
CTX's 144 points established a new ASC standard.
Concordia looks to continue the momentum into a pair of key road contests at Howard Payne and Sul Ross State. The Tornados take on the Yellow Jackets Thursday at 7:30 PM in Brownwood.
