Stockton Wins Fifth Straight Game, 82-60

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (14-5, 9-3 NJAC) led wire-to-wire as they won their fifth consecutive game with an 82-60 victory over William Paterson (9-10, 4-8 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead four Ospreys in double figures. Stockton held a 42-28 advantage on the glass, with 19 rebounds coming on the offensive end, and forced 21 turnovers that led to 33 points.

Stockton scored the first five points of the game and slowly built their lead during the first half. The Pioneers got to within three points at 10-7 at the 13:33 mark before the Ospreys started to get the offense rolling. Stockton outscored the visitors 26-15 the rest of the half to take a 36-22 lead into the break. Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) tallied nine points to top seven players in the scoring column for the home team during the first 20 half.

The second half got a bit closer as the Pioneers hit four straight three-pointers to close to margin to 45-37 in favor of Stockton with 15:14 remaining. The teams traded baskets but the visitors could not get any closer than the eight-point difference. Stockton led 57-49 at the 10:43 mark and put the game away with a 12-0 run in a span of 4:43, led by Cane with six points and Darius Jerkins (Somers Point/Mainland) with four markers. The run ended with the Ospreys ahead 69-49. Every player for Stockton saw action in the game as the Ospreys rolled to the 82-60 win.

Cane shot a perfect 8-8 from the foul line as part of his 22 markers. Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) added 16 points and a game-high five assists. Harmon and Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively, with Harmon pulling down a team-high seven boards. Tom Catanoso (Cape May Court House/Middle Twp.) swiped four of the team's 11 steals to lead all players.

Richy Espinal led the Pioneers with 16 points while Bright Mensah and Terik Bridgeman added 15 and 10 points respectively. Mensah topped all players with nine rebounds and dished a team-high four assists.

Stockton's next matchup will a makeup game at Rutgers-Newark on Monday at 8 p.m.
