Saxons get back on track against Utica

UTICA, NY—The Alfred University men's basketball team (8-11, E8 4-6) got back on track Saturday afternoon, topping Utica College 76-70 on the road.
 
The Saxons were led by junior Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) with 17 points and five assists. Senior Jeremy Johnson (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg) scored 13 points in the game, his season-high. Johnson also accumulated six rebounds and four blocks.
 
AU trailed for the first ten minutes of the first half, falling behind by as many as nine points. However, with 8:26 left in the first half, Johnson dropped in a layup to earn the lead 20-18.  By the end of the first half the Saxons had created a seven-point lead.
 
The Pioneers attempted to come back in the second half, but the Saxons drubbed the comeback with a three-point shot by junior Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) with 11:19 left in the game. AU carried the lead down the stretch to earn their fourth Empire 8 win of the season.
 
Adams scored 11 points for the Saxons who shot 29-of-63 (46.0%) from the field. Junior Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) added 11 points and four assists to the AU offense.  
 
The Saxons are off until next Friday when they take on Hartwick at home at 6PM.
