Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (13-5, 8-3 NJAC) broke out to a 21-8 lead in the first 10 minutes and sailed to a 77-68 victory over The College of New Jersey (11-7, 6-5). The Ospreys never trailed on the way to their fourth consecutive win behind four players in double figures.
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) paced Stockton with game highs of 19 points and four steals. Jaymere Hadden(Millville/Millville) chipped in with 16 points and a team-high six rebounds while Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) also scored 16 points.
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) tossed in 13 markers and tied his career high with four assists. Stockton scored 26 points off 23 TCNJ turnovers in the game and held the Lions to 23.8 percent shooting (5-21) in the first half.
Cane scored the last five points of a 12-3 run that gave Stockton a 21-8 lead midway through the first half. TCNJ later closed within 25-20 before the Ospreys ended the half with an 11-2 spurt over the last five minutes for a 36-22 advantage at the break. Hart exploded for seven points during the outburst. Cane and Hart finished the half with 10 and nine points respectively to spark the Ospreys.
Stockton's lead peaked at 21 on a layup by Hadden with 12:43 to play (54-33) and again on a basket by Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp) a minute later (56-35). TCNJ whittled the margin down to nine at 63-54 with 4:53 remaining but Hart answered with a three-point play to make it 66-54. The Ospreys later went 8-10 at the line in the final minute to seal the 77-68 victory.
Stockton will host NJAC foe William Paterson on Saturday at 1 p.m.
