The St. John Fisher College men's basketball program earned its seventh straight win, as the Cardinals held on for an 89-81 win over visiting Ithaca College Saturday at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court.
With the win, Fisher, playing in its sixth game in an eight-day span, improves to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Bombers fall to 9-5, 3-3.
Senior Tyler Hart led the way for the Cardinals, tallying 25 points and nine assists (both career highs). He was a perfect 12-for-12 from the foul line, with eight makes coming in the final 58 seconds of play.
Fisher led 18-16 with 12:01 left, but went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes, with Alex Sausville, Tyler English and Hart each hitting 3s during the spurt.
Hart scored 17 in the first half, as the Cardinals led 52-37 at the break.
Fisher took its biggest lead of the game at 64-45 with 15:31 left, but the Bombers battled back.
Ithaca whittled away at the Fisher lead, cutting it down to six points at 71-65 with just under eight minutes left.
Holding a six-point lead with less than six minutes left, Sausville scored eight straight points, including back-to-back 3s to put the Cardinals up 11 with 2:48 left.
The Bombers remained persistent, trimming the lead down to four points with 30 seconds left, but Hart's perfect performance at the charity stripe preserved the win.
Sausville finished the game with 17 points, while English added 14 points and team-high eight rebounds.
Chaz Lott and Keegan Ryan both finished with 11 points.
As a team, Fisher made a season-high 14 3-pointers, while shooting 14-of-25 (56%) from beyond the arc.
Fisher returns to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will host Utica College.
