Cortland Men Use Balanced Scoring Attack to Defeat Potsdam, 93-72

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Fifteen different Cortland players reached the scoring column, led by Blair Estarfaa's (Buffalo/Maryvale) 17 points, as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Potsdam, 93-72, in a SUNYAC men's basketball game.

Estarfaa hit 6-of-10 shots from the field and also dished out three assists in 19 minutes of action for the Red Dragons, who improved to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC. Carrel Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Deer Park (NY)) scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting in 12 minutes and Zay Cotton (Hyde Park/F.D. Roosevelt) made 3-of-4 shots and ended with eight points in nine first-half minutes off the bench.

Justin Cooper (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds. Jeff Lobello (Syracuse/Westhill) and Dre Hampton (Bronx/Frederick Douglass Academy) also scored seven points apiece, with Lobello also adding three assists, and Grequan Carter (Queens/Campus Magnet) registered seven rebounds.

Potsdam (1-11, 1-4 SUNYAC) was led by Nosa Onabor's game-high 22 points and nine rebounds. Nate Wyatte totaled 10 points and eight boards and Serigne Kane chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

Cortland shot 52 percent from the field overall and 42 percent (10-of-24) from the 3-point line. Potsdam was held to 36 percent shooting, 23 percent (7-for-31) from the arc.

Cortland opened up an 18-4 lead less than six minutes into the game and held a 30-11 advantage midway through the half. The Red Dragons took their largest lead of the half at 52-25 on a T.J. Hefele (Greenlawn/Friends Academy) with four seconds left. Cortland led by 32 points early in the second half. Potsdam eventually got within 18 at 81-63 with 4:30 left before the Red Dragons scored seven straight.

Cortland will host Plattsburgh Saturday at 4 p.m.
