ALFRED, NY—Junior Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) scored 16 points in a 72-70 loss at home against Nazareth College Friday evening in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

In addition to Seelman's 16-point performance, junior Julian Reinhart (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and sophomore Dalton Cousin (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) scored 12 points each. Junior Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) led the Saxons on the boards with 10 rebounds.

In the opening half of the contest, Nazareth outshot the Saxons 40.9% (9-of-22) to 35.7% (10-of-28).  Fifteen of the Golden Flyers 34 points came from free throws in the opening half.  AU shot 10-of-16 (62.5%) from the charity stripe in the first half compared to the 68.2% (15-of-22) by Naz. The Golden Flyers would carry a 34-32 advantage into the break.

The Saxons shot 48.3% (14-of-29) from the field in the second half, compared to the Naz 42.3% (11-of-26) from the field. The Golden Flyers scored another 16 points from the free throw line, compared to AU's 10 points.  In the game there was a total of 52 fouls committed and 71 free throw shots taken, accounting for 51 points by both teams.

The second half saw 12 score changes alone, with AU holding the largest lead of five points with 6:37 to go in the game.  However, the Golden Flyers erased the lead and took the advantage with 1:57 left on the clock. A layup by Reinhart tied the game at 70 with 57 seconds to go.  Mitch Ford missed a layup on the other end and an AU player missed a jumper with six seconds to go.  The ball was rebounded and thrown to the outlying player, Chris Jones who went in for the game-winning layup, but he was fouled.  Jones would make the two ensuing free throws with 0.2 seconds left on the clock.  AU attempted a desperate heave to no avail, as Naz took the game, 72-70.

Ford led the Golden Flyers with 20 points and four rebounds. Maurice Mills paced Naz in rebounds with five.

The Saxons (5-6, E8 1-1) look to rebound tomorrow (Jan. 9) against E8 rival Ithaca College at 2PM at home.
