GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Men's Basketball team picked up a 93-71 victory over Marywood Thursday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference Action. With the victory the Griffins sweep the season series with the Pacers and remain undefeated in league play.
The Griffins (7-5, 5-0 CSAC) placed four players in double figures with Julian Hyden scoring a game high 16. Aaron Morgan and Cedric Elleby added 15 apiece with Morgan connecting on 3-of-6 from behind the arc and Elleby recording a double-double with 12 rebounds. Arron Goodman contributed 11 along with nine boards. Hyden was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Gwynedd jumped out to an early 11-4 lead thanks to a Goodman layup at the 14:59 mark of the first half, and would continue to lead the Griffins in the first stanza stretching the lead to 20 (35-15) on a jumper in the paint. Drew Dietterich gave GMercyU their largest lead 43-19 in the half connecting on a bucket with just under a minute left. The Griffins would take a 43-23 lead into the break. Goodman finished the half with eight points and seven rebounds with his effort.
Morgan kept the offense rolling in the second half, connecting on his third three pointer of the game to give the Griffins their largest lead of the game at 61-27 with 14:15 remaining. The Pacers wouldn't go away quietly and cut into the deficit thanks to a 24-7 run to bring the score to 68-51 with less than nine minutes remaining.
Gwynedd would regroup and thanks to a strong bench contribution from freshman Courtney Cubbage, his basket stretched the lead to 26, twice, with layups at the 3:45 and 2:33 marks.
For the game, the Griffins shot 31-of-65 (47.7%) connecting on seven three pointers and shooting 24-of-29 from the charity stripe. The Pacers were held to 24-of-61 (39.3%) but hit 9-of-26 beyond the arc and converting 14-of-19 from the free throw line.
Gwynedd outrebounded Marywood 45-30 also doubling the Pacers with a 14-7 offensive rebound margin contributing to 23 second chance points.
Cory Callejas led Marywood (4-8, 0-5 CSAC) with 16 points while connecting on four three pointers. Conner Callejas and Shane Letthand added 13 apiece respectively.
The Griffins hit the road on Saturday traveling to Rosemont College. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
