Big Second Half Run Lifts Baruch to Win Over John Jay

Chimaechi Ekekeugborscored 21 points and William Sixsmithhad 11 points off the bench to lead the Bearcats to a 70-54 CUNYAC home win over the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats shot 50 percent (23-for-46) from the field and used tough defense to limit the Bloodhounds to 34 percent shooting (17-for-50), including 5-of-17 from three, to improve to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the CUNYAC.

They took control of the game at the start of the second half. Jesse Higgins scored to give the visiting Bloodhounds a 30-29 lead with 17:48 left, but it would be short lived as the Bearcats scored 25 of the next 29 points for a 54-34 advantage with 5:59 remaining.   

The Bloodhounds went on a late rally but could only get as close as 62-50 with under two minutes left to fall to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in the CUNYAC.

The Bearcats scored 23 points off turnovers and got a big boost from the bench with 29 total points for the impressive home win.

Kiernan Hayes led the visitors with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, January 8, at 7:15 p.m. when they visit the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College at the West Quad Center in Brooklyn, New York.
