Grant Shaeffer (15), Taylor Montero (13) and Cortez Tillman (12) combined for 40 points and Ryan Saarela added 14 rebounds Tuesday night as No. 5-ranked St. Thomas (7-1) scored a 56-38 road win over 2015 national champion UW-Stevens Point (4-4) in non-conference men's basketball.
The Pointers, who shot just 28 percent from the field (13-of-46), took a rare double-digit home defeat. Three of their four defeats have come to current top-5 ranked teams. UST is the first team in at least 18 seasons to hold Stevens Point under 40 points.
St. Thomas, which had a 35-24 rebounding edge, led 26-22 at halftime.
The Tommies improved to 49-1 under fifth-year head coach John Tauer when they allow 60 or less points.
