Highlanders Battle With Chargers; Drop Tight 97-93 Game

More news about: Cairn

Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders were narrowly defeated in a shootout on Friday evening by the Lancaster Bible College Chargers 97-93. Cairn's team field goal percentage in the game was 54.4% and three-point percentage was 48.0% in the offensively-minded game.

The Highlanders quickly erased a 10-point deficit to start the second half and matched Lancaster Bible point-for-point in the remaining 20 minutes. Cairn had their largest lead of four points with 13:19 to go in the half but from there the teams swapped the lead nine times over the next ten minutes.

Jason Kuntzelman was the standout for the Highlanders on the night as he shot 9-14 overall and 7-10 from three-point range. Kuntzelman finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Kuntzelman also dished out five assists in the game.

Gerroid Doughty II was no slouch either with his 21 points on 7-16 shooting from the floor and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Julian Collazo followed with 12 points going 50% from the floor. Jermiah Harris also finished in double-digits with 11 points (5-6 FG).

The Highlanders found themselves in a seven-point hole with 6:18 on the clock in the second half but didn't let the Chargers score over the next 3:21 of the game. Unfortunately, Cairn couldn't get much to go either over that time and still had six points to make up with less than three minutes on the clock.

Collazo started things off from there with a layup and Kuntzelman cut the deficit to just two with a long three-pointer over CJ Dunston. The clock dropped to 0:41 and Lancaster Bible had the ball. The Chargers missed a three-pointer but Dunston collected the rebound and was fouled with seven seconds left.

Dunston came through for the Chargers and made both free throws to give his team a four-point lead. Kuntzelman and Doughty were able to attempt threes before time expired but neither found their way through the netting.

Leading the team for Lancaster Bible was Bryce Williams with 28 points, followed by Dunston and Jordan Mellinger with 15 each. Dunston also led the team in rebounding with 11 total.

With their first home loss of the season, Cairn dropped to 5-4 overall, while Lancaster Bible stayed undefeated and improved to 7-0 overall. The Highlander will next take their winter break before traveling to Longwood University (DI) for a scrimmage on Dec. 28.
