Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team jumped out to a double digit halftime lead and never looked back cruising to a 62-46 victory v. Clarkson University in their season opener on Friday night in the North Country Tipoff hosted by SUNY Potsdam.
The Roos shot 50 percent from the field in the opening half and held a 23-20 rebounding advantage as each team committed seven turnovers.Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) led the way with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists in the opening 20 minutes on 5-for-10 shooting.Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) added eight points and Khalil Bratton(Queens, NY) posted six in the scoring column.
The game was close early on as the Roos led 17-14 with 12:43 remaining after Kazre Cummings (Providence, RI) stole the ball and Annorh finished with a lay-up in transition. SUNY Canton outscored the Knights 20-12 the remainder of the half to open up a double digit halftime lead at 37-26.
SUNY Canton extended its lead to as many as 21 midway through the second half after Adrian Williams (Brooklyn, NY) drained a shot from downtown to put the Roos up 53-32.
Annorh led the Roos with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Fletcher added 11 points and seven rebounds. Bratton was the only other scorer in double figures with 10, while Matt Spencer (Gouverneur, NY) and Kam Peterkin(Harlem, NY) chipped in seven and six points, respectively.
The Roos shot 51 percent from the field in the contest, while holding the Knights to just a 31 percent clip. SUNY Canton held a 42-28 edge in points in the paint.
With the win the Roos advance to the championship game of the North Country Tipoff as they will take on SUNY Poly on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the campus of SUNY Potsdam.
