LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's basketball team suffered from a cold shooting performance as the Scots fell 58-48 to Rhodes on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action inside Barnes PE Center.

Covenant (4-3) shot just 34.7 percent (17-of-49) from the field in the game, although the Scots were up over 44 percent in the second half alone as they made a late rally. Rhodes (4-2) made 41.3 percent (19-of-46) from the floor and was 16-of-25 from the free throw line.

Ben Phelps came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting with three 3-pointers. Patjo Twagirayezu added 14 points and five rebounds. Bailey Spragg chipped in six points and Daniel Garrett had a team-high seven rebounds. Berto Dryden and TJ Cox both dished out three assists.

Covenant had a difficult time finding the range in the opening 20 minutes. Rhodes was able to build an 18-4 lead after a pair of Keyshawn Butts free throws with 5:47 left in the half. Down 25-8, the Scots scored the final five points of the period, capped by a Spragg 3-pointer, to cut the deficit to 25-13 at halftime.

In the second half, Rhodes extended the lead to 38-19 with 15:11 remaining ona Brennan Sullivan 3-pointer. Covenant methodically chipped away at its deficit going on a 13-0 run over a span of five-and-a-half minutes to get to within 47-43. But Rhodes' Sullivan scored the next seven points as Rhodes got back up by double digits at 54-43 and would secure the victory.

Sullivan led all scorers with 16 points, while Tyler Gee and Aquil Muhammad added 11 points apiece for Rhodes. Daniel Galvin recorded eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Covenant's bench, led by Phelps, outscored Rhodes 23-8. Rhodes held a 37-30 reboudning edge, while both teams had 18 points off turnovers.
