The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team kept on rolling Saturday afternoon as the Chargers defeated Bryn Athyn, 102-75 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play with the victory and have two games remaining prior to Christmas Break.

How it Happened: For the third straight game, the Chargers scored 50 or more points in the opening half as Lancaster Bible raced out to a 59-25 halftime advantage. A layup from Dondre Perry followed by a 3-pointer from CJ Dunston on the Chargers' first two possessions got the ball rolling, but Lancaster Bible scored just 12 points over the next seven minutes, though the Chargers still held a 17-10 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half.

Despite the offense taking its time to warm-up, the defense was superb and Lancaster Bible stretched a 12-10 lead into a 32-12 advantage over the course of 5:46 midway through the first half. Three straight 3-pointers from Perry, Kurt Keltner and Dunston gave Lancaster Bible a 47-17 lead with 3:32 to play and back-to-back free throws from Dunston with 16 seconds left in the half produced the halftime score of 59-25. The 59 points are the most for the Chargers in one half this season and the 34-point halftime lead is also the largest of the year.

In the second half, Lancaster Bible kept its lead at 30 or more points until the final minute of play. The Chargers' defense waned a bit as the Lions scored 50 points in the second half, but both teams emptied their respective benches with under four minutes to play. The Chargers took their largest lead of the game at 98-61 on a layup by sophomore Herbie Brown with 4:51 to play.

The Coach Says: "I thought we came out much better defensively today than we did on Wednesday and our intensity on that end of the floor was tremendous," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Zach Filzen said. "We shot well in the first half, but we still didn't move the ball very well. The shots were going in, but it wasn't necessarily because we were running our offense effectively."

On the team's second half performance..."I liked our effort in the second half, just can't have those lapses defensively like we did," Filzen said. "We moved the ball a bit better, but can definitely improve on that aspect of our game."

On the week ahead..."Next week is a big week for us," Filzen said. "Not necessarily because of the game at the end of the week, but we actually have some time to work on a few things in practice and don't have two games during the week. We are going to go hard on Monday and Tuesday and start getting ready for Cairn bit-by-bit each day."

On starting NEAC play with a 2-0 record..."It's important to start 2-0 and get some wins under our belt in NEAC play," Filzen said. "We still need to get better and there is still a lot to work on. It's going to get crazy schedule-wise after Christmas, so now is the time to have good practices and work hard."
