Buffalo State Shuts Down No. 25 Oswego, 66-56

BUFFALO, N.Y--Jordan Chateau (Bayside/Lowell) dominated the paint with 22 points and nine rebounds and host Buffalo State held No. 25-ranked Oswego to just 24 second-half points in a 66-56 victory in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Chateau finished 9 of 14 from the floor.
  • Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) was the only other Bengal scorer in double-figures with 17 points to go with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
  • Michael Henry (Syracuse/W. Genesee) had nine points and 10 rebounds, and Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) scored nine points to go with eight rebounds and four assists.
  • Buffalo State led by as many as five early, but trailed 32-23 at halftime. 
  • Oswego pushed its lead to 11 early in the second half before Buffalo State chipped away and regained the lead for the first time since midway through the first half at 42-41 with 9:27 remaining. 
  • Buffalo State held the Lakers scoreless for a stretch of more than six minutes in the middle of the second half, and only allowed two field goals in the final 15:27, with both coming in the last 1:18 of the game when the Bengals were in control.
  • After shooting 39 percent in the first half, Buffalo State hit 50 percent from the field in the second half, overcoming a 1 for 16 performance from 3-point range for the game.
  • The Bengals outscored Oswego 40-20 in the paint and outrebounded the Lakers 47-36.
 

FOR THE FOES

  • Oswego shot just 18 percent in the second half, going 4 of 22.  The Lakers shot 33-percent for the game.
  • Walter Sampson led Oswego with 18 points and six assists.
  • Brian Sortino added 12 points, but was 0 for 6 from beyond the arc.
