Yeshiva Holds Off FSC for Skyline Victory

Yeshiva - 74, Farmingdale State - 69


Farmingdale, N.Y. - In their first Skyline Conference game of the season, the Farmingdale State men's basketball team was defeated by Yeshiva, 74-69, this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Trailing 20-12 with 8:31 remaining in the first half, the Rams (0-5, 0-1) used an Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) score and a layup and free-throw from Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 20-17.

After Yeshiva (3-3, 1-2) extended their lead to 30-21 with 4:08 left in the half, Farmingdale State scored six straight points to again close within three, 30-27.

The Maccabees led by four with one second remaining in the half before senior forward Joseph Ammar (Miami, Fla.) hit a half court shot as time expired to give Yeshiva a 35-28 advantage at the break.

With 12:59 remaining, Yeshiva was on top by eight and used a quick 5-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 53-40.

Trailing 64-54 with 3:54 on the clock, Monaghan and Kinloch each converted a pair of free-throws to cut the FSC deficit to six, 64-58.

The Maccabees led 70-63 with 35 seconds left to play before junior forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) hit a layup and free-throw to bring the Rams within four. After Yeshiva converted two at the free-throw line on their next possession, sophomore guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer to cut the Farmingdale State deficit to 72-69 with 18 seconds remaining.

The Maccabees followed with two missed free-throws but a Rams turnover on their next possession sealed the victory for Yeshiva.

Freshman forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while Kinloch finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds. Irvine tallied a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 boards for the Rams.

Yeshiva's Michael Hayon (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored a game-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and added 10 rebounds.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Sage for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, December 5th at 2:00 p.m.
