Elmhurst Crushes Adrian Behind Three-Point Barrage

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team knocked down 11 three-pointers en route to an 82-50 blow out victory over Adrian College at R.A. Faganel Hall.

The Bluejays were red-hot in the opening half, turning an 8-6 deficit into a 24-10 lead with an 18-2 run in the game's first 10 minutes. Three-pointers from Peyton WyattEric Leonard and Brandon Schwebke helped fuel the early run. 

Adrian (5-2) cut the Bluejays' lead down to eight points with six minutes remaining in the half, but Elmhurst answered back, closing the half on an 18-7 run to build a 49-30 lead at the half. Wyatt connected on two more three-pointers while Kyle Wuest also hit from downtown to spark the Bluejays' final run of the half. Elmhurst entered the locker room shooting 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the floor, including 60.0 percent (9-of-15) from long distance.

Elmhurst continued to pull away in the second half, opening with a 14-4 run to build a 29-point cushion with 11:12 remaining. Adrian came no closer than 26 points for the duration of the game as the Bluejays cruised to the 32-point victory.

Elmhurst cooled in the second half, but finished the contest shooting an even 50.0 percent (26-of-52) from the floor and 44.0 percent (11-of-25) from three-point range. Elmhurst hit 19-of-22 free throw attempts to shoot 86.4 percent from the foul line. The Bluejays were once again dominant on the glass outrebounding Adrian 42-29. It marked the third time this season the Bluejays won the rebound battle by double figures.

Elmhurst had a balanced attack as 11 different players put points on the scoreboard. Erik Crittenden led the way, finishing one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Wuest added 15 points and needs just eight points to reach the 1,000 point mark for his career. Wyatt finished with 12 points, all coming from behind the arc. Pat Coleman added nine points and four assists while Eric Leonard and Kenny Payonk finished with seven points apiece.

Adrian finished the game shooting 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the floor and just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from three-point range. DaVonte Harris led Bulldogs in the loss with 13 points while Christian Covile finished with nine points and nine rebounds. 

Elmhurst continues its five-game homestand on Saturday, December 5, by hosting Albion College.
