Alfred University loses second half lead in Fredonia

FREDONIA, NY—The Alfred University men's basketball team (4-2, E8 0-0) fell on the road to SUNY Fredonia, 82-69, despite four Saxons scoring in double-digits.
 
Junior Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) led the Saxons with 18 points on the night.  Fellow junior Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored 14 points and added seven rebounds. Sophomore Dalton Cousin (Sherill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherill) topped his career-best for the second game in a row with 15 points. Freshman Pat McLamore (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) also reach a personal best with 10 points on the night. 
 
Despite multiple Saxons putting together career-best performances, the team shot 20-of-57 (35.1%) from the field against the Blue Devils.  In comparison, Fredonia made 29-of-62 (46.8%) of their shots.  AU held the advantage in three pointers shooting 7-of-22 (31.8%) to 5-of-18 (27.8%).
 
In the opening minutes of the game, Fredonia jumped out to a small lead, getting up by no more than four points over the course of the first 11 minutes.  Finally, the Saxons took hold of the lead on a Seelman free throw in with 8:47 to go in the opening half.  AU generated and maintained space from its opponents, taking a 38-30 into the intermission.
 
By the eighth minute of the second half the Blue Devils erased the Saxons' lead and quickly built a lead of their own.  AU attempted to foul their way back into the game in the closing minutes, but their opponents hit 9-of-10 free throws in the final 1:53 of the game.  As the game came to a close, AU was behind 82-69.
 
The Saxons held an edge in points off turnovers (17-13) and bench points (33-25), but could not seem to get the shots to fall in the second half, shooting 10-of-29 (34.5%) overall.
 
The men's basketball team has a long break until their next matchup at Buffalo State on December 12 at 2PM.
