NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A red-hot shooting Indiana University – Northwest squad managed to hold off a game effort from Manchester University Saturday, Nov. 21.
The Spartans, dipping to 1-2, received a pair of 19-point efforts from freshman guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior guard Brady Dolezal (Tipton, Ind.). Sophomore guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) registered 12 points off the bench, and junior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) turned in 11 points. However, the visiting RedHawks (2-4) answered MU comebacks at every turn, shooting better than 51 percent from the field, over 64 percent from beyond the arc and 70 percent at the free throw line to earn a 94-84 win at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
Manchester University held a lead on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' RedHawks as late as 6:43 remaining in the first half (22-21). From that point, the visitors took off on a 9-0 run and didn't trail the rest of the night. IU-Northwest broke away from a close-knit six-point margin early in the second frame to open up as much as a 17-point advantage.
The Black and Gold conclude a three-game home stand Tuesday, Nov. 24, when Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association member Calvin College comes to North Manchester. Tipoff is 8 p.m.
NOTES: Johnson's first week in a Spartans' uniform was a memorable one. He averaged 17 points per game, draining seven three-pointers and picking off nine steals in the three-game span … Dolezal wasn't far behind in week one with a 16.3 points-per-game average … Casteel had an active evening in front of the home fans, just missing a double-double (eight rebounds) to go with five assists and a blocked shot.
