SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 21, 2015) – A day after its offense had its most efficient game of the season, the Sewanee men's basketball team used a stout defense to roll past visiting Blackburn, 68-50, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Tigers limited the Beavers to only a 38.9 shooting percentage. Sewanee also forced 16 turnovers, which led to 19 points.

With two wins during the Lon Varnell Classic, Sewanee is now 3-1 this season and have won 12 straight home games dating back to 2014-15.

After a slow start for both teams, Sewanee took an 11-5 lead after Keshonn Carter hit a jumper midway through the half. That opened an 11-5 run for the Tigers over the next two minutes. Blackburn answered backed with back-to-back jumpers from Jake Maestranzi and Henry Hicks.

After a Matt Tome free throw, Seth Brown and Cody Jones knocked down mid-range shots to extend Sewanee's lead to 11, 25-14.

Blackburn responded over the final five minutes off the half with a 10-6 run.

Out of the locker room, Sewanee kept its defensive pressure up. The Tigers limited the Beavers to three field goals over the first nine minutes of the second half. That allowed Sewanee to build its lead to 18, 50-32, when Jorden Williams hit a three.

Blackburn would chip away at its deficit over the next nine minutes. However, after DeAndre Manuel made his jumper with 2:37, Sewanee closed the door on any comeback chance with late free throws by Brody Stone and Clay Born.

Individually, Stone led Sewanee with an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. Williams also played well with a game-high 17 points while Carter added 10 points and five boards.

Hicks paced Blackburn with 15 points.

Sewanee returns to action with an 8:00 p.m. contest against Covenant on Dec. 1.
