Rosemont men edge Rutgers-Camden, 63-60

CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 20, 2015) – Senior guard Marcus Thomas (Philadelphia, PA/Manor Junior College) scored a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the second half, to lead the Rosemont College men's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 63-60, in a non-conference game here Friday.

 

Rosemont improves to 2-1, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-3.

 

After the two teams played to a 24-24 halftime deadlock, the Ravens took the lead for good early in the second half on a foul shot by sophomore guard Kyle Lafferty (Philadelphia, PA/Central), making it a 25-24 game. Rosemont's second-half lead fluctuated from 1-6 points the rest of the way, with the visitors holding a 53-47 margin on a Lafferty layup with 3:17 remaining.

 

Rutgers-Camden, however, scored seven of the next eight points to cut the gap to 55-54 with 57 seconds remaining. Junior guard Davis Graham (Cinnaminson, NJ/Doane Academy) and senior guard/forward John Tatem (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) both hit a three-pointer in that rally, while freshman forward Ibrahim Kargbo (Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) cut the gap to one point with a foul shot.

 

Rosemont, however, answered with a three-pointer by junior forward Khai Roberts (Middletown, DE/Middletown) and eventually built a 63-57 lead with 1.5 seconds remaining. The Raptors cut the margin to three points at the buzzer with a long trey from beyond half court by freshman guard Kelvin Rivera (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton).

 

In addition to 25 points by Thomas, the Ravens received 10 from Lafferty. Junior forward Khadim Diaw (Louisville, KY/Sullivan University) paced the team with eight rebounds.

 

Graham led the Raptors with 11 points, while freshman guard Elijah Robles (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) scored nine and junior guard Julian Diaz-Smitherman (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added eight. Sophomore forward Abby Bah (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) hauled down a game-high nine rebounds, setting his career high, and added six points, while Tatem scored five points and added eight boards.

 

Rutgers-Camden shot 21-for-55 (38.2 percent) from the floor, while Rosemont went 22-for-57 (38.6). The Scarlet Raptors held a 39-35 edge off the boards.

 

Both teams return to action Tuesday with road games. Rosemont plays a 7 p.m. contest at Neumann University. Rutgers-Camden opens its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule with an 8 p.m. game at The College of New Jersey.
