YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball squad used an early 16-2 run to sprint past Gettysburg College 66-47 in the annual Route 30 rivalry on Monday night in York.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 while the Bullets fall to 0-1.
The game was tied at five just over two and a half minutes into the game when Mike Duffy (Hanover, Pa./South Western) hit a tough lay up in the lane to kick start the run. Duffy was fouled and converted the three-point play and the Spartans were on their way. Duffy hit a three just under two minutes later and then capped the run with a lay up as the Spartans led 19-5 with 14:13 left in the opening half.
The Bullets cut the Spartan lead to 21-9 but Matt Scamuffo (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) drilled a three and then a lay up a minute later to push the York lead to 26-9. The Spartan lead grew to 20 when Jason Bady (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Henderson) canned a three with 3:34 left in the half. The Spartans would take a 36-18 lead to the intermission.
The halftime lead was very impressive considering York's leading scorer, Dalton Myers (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), played just four minutes due to foul trouble.
The Spartans came out of the break wanting to get Myers going and they did as the forward converted a three-point play 33 seconds into the half. That started a 13-3 run that pushed the York lead to a game-high 28 points. The Bullets would cut the lead to as few as 16 as the Spartans substituted liberally in the second half. York settled for the 19-point win as they held their second opponent to just 47 points.

He was 2-for-2 at the free throw line while he also had seven rebounds and two assists. Scamuffo continues to play well early in the year as he added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Scamuffo was 5-for-8 from the floor including 2-for-5 from three. Senior Chris Conway (Luthersville, Md./Dulaney) was the third Spartan in double figures with 11 points while he also had three rebounds. Duffy finished the game with nine points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal in just 20 minutes of work.
The Spartans played all 13 players in the game as 10 players scored and 11 players had at least one rebound.
Kevin Gladstone led all scorers as the Bullets' standout had 16 points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Gladstone was 6-for-11 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free throw line. Pete Christ chipped in with 10 points as he was 3-for-7 from the floor, 2-for-6 from three and 2-for-3 from the charity stripe. Cody Kiefer and Mlynue Reeves led Gettysburg on the glass with six caroms each.
York finished the game shooting 54.3% from the floor and 46.7% (7-for-15) from three. The Spartans were an efficient 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the charity stripe. Gettysburg shot 28.8% from the field including 3-for-23 (13.05) from downtown. The Bullets went to the line 20 times and converted 14 of those attempts (70%).
The Spartans have been very good defensively all year as they are holding their opponents to 28.9% (33-for-114) shooting from the floor. They have also been stingy against the three pointer as their two opponents are a combined 4-for-41 (9.8%) from three.
The Spartans dominated the glass as they out-rebounded the Bullets 37-26. York held a 34-24 margin in points in the paint while Gettysburg held a slight 9-6 edge in second chance points.
