Seelman and Adams dominate in season opener

ALFRED, NY—Juniors Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) and Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central)spearheaded the Saxons (1-0, E8 0-0) to a win during their opening contest of the 2015-16 season 76-67 over Wells College in Alfred, NY.
 
Seelman led Alfred University with 22 points on 8-of-19 shooting (5-of-11 from 3PT range). Adams chimed in with 15 points and 15 rebounds (10 offensive), tying his career-high in rebounds. The last time he reached 15 rebounds was against Ithaca College on the road January 23, 2015.
 
Over the course of the game the Saxons dominated the Wells Express 19-1 in second chance points and bench points (21-14).  Wells held an advantage in fast break points 8-4.
 
In the opening half the Saxons held the advantage until the 2:49 mark despite shooting a dismal 12-of-36 (33.3%) from the field and 4-of-12 (33.3%) from the charity stripe.  However, the Express took advantage of the momentum and carried a five-point lead into the intermission, 35-30.
 
By the 12:35 mark AU erased the Wells lead, grabbing the advantage on a Seelman three-pointer. Over the next five minute both teams struggled for supremacy over the other and five lead changes occurred.  Finally with 7:57 left in the game, junior Nigel Herbert (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) hit a long trey-shot, putting the Saxons up by two. Over the next minute AU went on a 9-0 run to pull ahead 63-57. 
 
Key free throw shots by sophomore Tristin Hook (Red Band, NJ/Middletown North), junior Julian Reinhart(Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Herbert helped the Saxons create a sizeable lead as time ran down.  Herbert hit a free throw with 31 seconds to play to seal the deal for AU, 76-67.
 
Over the course of the game the Saxons were outmatched in field goal percentage (55.6% to 40.9%) and free throws (61.9% to 53.6%) but managed to take hold in three-point shooting (31.8% to 28.6%).
 
Following the first win of the season the Saxons have a week off until they travel to Dallas, PA to take on SUNY Geneseo in the first round of the Misericordia University Tournament at 6PM.
